The World Religions Conference in Canada is an annual multifaith event. Its origins date back to 1981, when the first conference was held in Brantford Ontario. Today, it is considered Canada's largest multi-faith gathering. It also encourages dialogue between different religions.
Interreligious dialogue
The Boston College Coloquia on Interreligious Discussion will bring together scholars of different religions and from all parts of the world to tackle fundamental questions in this field. This year's conference will feature Michael J. Puett (Walter C. Klein Professor in Chinese History at Harvard University), who will discuss how Chinese religions can benefit Western rituals. Anantanand Rambachan is a Stonehill College professor of Hindu Studies and Associate Professor of Religion Studies at College of the Holy Cross. His talk will discuss the lessons that Hinduism can take from Christian social thought.
Animism
Animism, one of many world religions, has a profound impact on our lives. It is often described as an esoteric religion, but it is also a practical religion. To achieve their goals, people use a variety of practices such as praying for protection or healing.
Totemism
Totemism, a form or religion, is the result of people projecting their religious values onto objects of sacred nature. According to the philosopher Durkheim, all religious belief functions in a similar way: Rituals generate a collective consciousness, a shared set of values, thoughts, and religious framework.
Hinduism
A panel on Hinduism was featured at a recent conference in Utah. The conference had two goals: to raise awareness and present new ideas to the public about religion in modern times. Sarma, although the conference was focused on religion and the need to understand Hindu belief systems in relation to Western faith traditions, stressed that it was equally important to understand Hindu practice.
Islam
The Islam and world religions conference is an important event that will celebrate the diversity of world religions. The conference will feature talks by some of the most renowned scholars of Islam in America. A wide range of speakers will be attending the conference, including those from different backgrounds within the Muslim community. Eighteen of the 14 speakers will be women and two will come from Africa. These presentations will be formatted in a similar way to TED Talks. This format is meant to make the presentations more accessible and relevant to a broad audience.
Judaism
Judaism used to be considered a minority faith. However, there are many Jews who live in the United States. The religion seeks a just society, and its teachings are applied to the social order, industry and commerce. It also strives to eradicate poverty, tyranny, social inequality. It champions the rights of all people to a decent standard of living and the sanctity of human life.
Unitarianism
Unitarianism can be considered a global religion. It has a long history of establishing relations with people of other faiths and is considered a secular religion. But it is distinctive in many ways from other religions. Unitarianism may have evolved to a pluralistic liberal movement throughout the English-speaking world but its distinctiveness is still evident in continental Europe.
