These movies are great for fans of Greek mythology. These films are filled with drama, action and history. Whether you're looking for a film about Hercules, Percy Jackson, or O Brother, Where Art Thou, these movies have something for you.
Hercules
Many children love animated films about Hercules, a popular Greek mythological character. Disney's animated Hercules has become a popular film. The story is loosely inspired by the life of the Greek hero. It tells the story of Hercules' 12 labors and features characters from ancient Greece. Danny DeVito and many other talented actors voice the animated cast.
Disney's Hercules film is a fun and charming family film. It doesn't have the same heroics as the original Hercules but it is a nice introduction to Greek mythology.
O Brother, Where Art Thou
O Brother, where art Thou, a movie about Greek mythology, takes Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey, and places it in 1930s-era Mississippi. While it is based in part on the epic poem this movie doesn't follow the plot line by line and focuses instead on modern life. The story's setting sets it apart from The Odyssey which is an ancient Greek mythology work set in the Mediterranean Sea during Bronze Age.

The setting of the Greek mythology story often causes modifications to the events. The Odyssey shows Odysseus as a shepherd, but O Brother, Where Art Thou? has characters who are Klu Klux Klan members. The story's setting plays an important role in its structure and narrative.
Electra
Electra is the daughter of King Agamemnon and is left in mourning after her father and wife are killed by Clytemnestra, a rival king, and his wife. Electra grows up bitter and hateful because of this tragedy. As a young woman, she plots to get revenge on her father with Orestes, her brother. They must reconcile their need for justice with their feelings towards matricide.
The tragic story of Electra is a classic example Greek tragedy. This playwright's dream character is the tale of revenge and retribution. The Electra is a bitter, erudite woman, wrathful, and dangerous. This character is all a playwright can want in a character.
Percy Jackson
"Percy Jackson, the Olympians" was the fifth installment in Rick Riordan's Rick Riordan Series. It follows the adventures and exploits of Poseidon's son. Percy is a character who becomes involved in the battles between deities. John Rocco has illustrated the book. There is also a family history of the Greek gods. The author said that the story has similarities to other Greek mythology books, but it was important for him to incorporate stories not typically included in traditional retellings.
The Titanomachy (a battle between Titans-gods) is also part of this story. Kronos, the father of the Titans, did not trust his children, so his wife hid Zeus from Kronos. The baby then barfed up Kronos's siblings, which led to the distrust of Kronos.

The 300 Spartans
If you like Greek mythology movies, you've probably seen The 300 Spartans by Zack Snyder. The film is based upon Frank Miller's graphic novel. It tells the story of Battle of Thermopylae. The stories have many similarities, but there are also many differences. Both films depict brutality as well as machismo.
The film portrays King Leonidas as a young man, while the historical King was about 60 years old when he was killed at Thermopylae. However, King Leonidas remained loyal to his people, even if he was too old to fight. King Xerxes succeeded him, who was younger with a beard.
