Polytheism can be described as a religion in the worship of gods in different ways. It's the belief in multiple gods and gods, rather than one supreme god or deity. This article will discuss different forms of polytheism such as Orthodox Christianity (Catholicism), Shinto and Zoroastrianism.
Zoroastrianism
Zoroastrianism refers to a religion from the ancient Near East or Central Asia. It is believed it was founded around the second year of the third millennium B.C.E. Its name derives its origin from Zarathushtra, also known as Zoroaster. Even though it is centuries old, this ancient religion is still popular today.
Zoroastrians believe it is the eternal struggle of good and evil. They believe in the existence of two spirits: Angra Mainyu, which is the spirit for evil, and Spenta Mainyu who is the spirit for good. They also believe the power of fire. Zoroastrians consider a fire temple their main place of worship. Legend says that there were three fire temples at first. But these temples are legends and have not been found.
Catholicism
The Catholic religion is a monotheistic faith that acknowledges the divinity of Jesus Christ and the Trinity. Its most important religious document, the Judeo-Christian Bible which is considered to been inspired by God, is its principal religious document. It includes both the Old Testament of Hebrew Religion and the New Testament canonical works. The Bible was created in the 4th-century CE. Some parts of Scripture can be read literally, while others may be considered poetic expressions.
Catholics believe in the Virgin Mary and all other saints. These saints do not have powers of creation but are called upon for intercession in prayers. The Virgin Mary was the mother Jesus Christ's and lived in Bethlehem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem. The archangel gave her the promise that she would bear Christ as a virgin. She did it, but she remained a virgin even after the birth. Her body underwent what is called "the assumption" to become Queen of Heaven.
Orthodox Christianity
The relationship between Orthodox Christianity, polytheism, and Orthodox Christianity isn't just about belief. Both religions have very different views about God's nature and salvation. Orthodox Christians believe that God is made manifest through grace and the Holy Spirit. This is how God became a man on earth and revealed Himself to us.
Worship in Orthodox Christianity is liturgical and follows ritual patterns. It encompasses all of humanity and is a direct entry to the throne. Worship is transformational because it draws the Christian closer to God, and transforms him into saints. Orthodox Christianity has two essential components: worshiping and veneration.
Shinto
Shinto practitioners practice ritual purification, before approaching a kami or making a petitionary pray. Moreover, they are expected to make an offering before seeking the kami's blessings. This can be in the form a meal, sake or a horse. These offerings are considered a transaction by the worshipper and the kami.
Local shrines were used in the early days of Shinto to enshrine protector gods from the local clan or village. These shrines were often associated with seasonal festivals, and everyone was expected to take part in them. Shinto beliefs focused on the village's interests, while Buddhism focuses on individual faith. Shinto was modified by Buddhism which allows people to pray at shrines for personal matters.
