If you're a fan of ancient Sumerian mythology, then you may have heard about Utu, the Sumerian God of the Sun. This god was the embodiment of the sun's radiant light and provided warmth for the earth and plants. Many of his drawings featured fiery suns. Utu, who was also the father Nanna (the moon God) and the twin brother of Inanna, was also depicted.

Ninib

Ninib, a Sumerian god, was an imposing warrior. Enlil, his father's commandment, ordered Ninib to go forth. Ninib was originally associated in vegetation but he later came to be associated with Saturn, which his father called Kaitaann. He was also associated in healing. Gula, his wife was the patroness and patroness of doctors. His important role in Assyrian religion was crucial.

Ninib was the personification of the sun. He was originally a member of the "Nippur” circle deities. This included Enlil, who is the god rains and storms. Enlil was the head pantheon and gave Ninib his share in the conquest of chaos.

Utu

Utu, Sumerian god of sun, is also known to be the god of truth and morality. Ningal, a fertility goddess, was the god who gave birth to the god Utu. His sun-granting abilities helped plants grow and he was highly revered by humanity. He is often depicted as an old man, carrying a solar disk. Utu is also known for his participation in the Law Code of Hammurabi which is considered to be the foundation of human civilization.


Utu was also the half-brother of Inanna. They are close friends and considered to be more than just siblings. Inanna has a problem with Utu. Utu will not stop his daily hike. Inanna sought the assistance of Gilgamesh who killed the serpent, drove away Utu, and sent the evil spirit from a Lillitu fleeing the scene. Inanna also called upon the goddess for help, who slew the snakes and sent out the Lillitu demonic fleeing her path. Inanna received her throne when Gilgamesh took down a tree.

Inanna

Inanna is a Sumerian Goddess of Love and Fertility. In Akkadian, she is known as Ishtar. She was married the shepherd-king Dumuzi. Although both were gods at one point, their relationship was difficult. Inanna was often depicted being young, impetuous, striving for more power.

She is the most important goddess in Sumerian mythology, and her story includes a love story. Inanna's Songs describes her love affair with Dumuzi in a poem. This poem is approximately 2800 BCE old and depicts Inanna's courtship to Dumuzi. Inanna's courtship with a farmer is also described in the poem "Inanna Prefers the Farmer". The poem tells her story of her rejection and eventual marriage to the shepherd Dumuzi.
