The Homeric Hymn To Demeter is about the death of Persephone, Demeter's daughter. Cronos, Persephone’s dad, had set up a marriage between Hades and Persephone, and the earth was opened after Persephone passed away so that Hades might return from beneath.

Homer's Oedipusrex

Oedipus summons Tiresias the blind prophet to help him. This is the beginning of Homer’s Oedipus ReX. Tiresias claims that he knows the answer to Oedipus’s questions, but refuses to talk. After hearing this, Oedipus goes into a deep state of denial and accuses Tiresias of complicity in Laius's murder. Oedipus assumes that Creon paid Tiresias to do so.

Oedipus is a Greek tragedy, dating back to 4th century BC. The play begins when Oedipus, Thebes' king, sends Creon to Delphi to question the oracle about a plague plaguing Thebes. According to the oracle the plague is caused because of the unsolved Murder of Laius. As a result, Oedipus vows to find Laius and solve the plague.

Homer's Orpheus

Homer's Iliad saw Orpheus first appear in Homer’s Iliad in 7th century BCE. His story ended in the ninth century CE. He was a mortal, sometimes a demigod, who was married with the sea nymph Eurydice.

A classic example is the Orpheus tale. Homer describes how rebirth works in the Iliad as well as the Odyssey. He also explains the function of the Moirae daughters. The Orphic stories of the afterlife are interwoven with the Homeric description.
