The god is often associated in some way with violence and war. He is the god who causes bloodshed, violence, indiscriminate murder, and destruction of human life.

The mighty Spartan army was the center of Spartan life. Boys left home as young as seven years of age to begin their military training. They could not find another vocation or education. The Spartans worshipped the god Ares who represented Sparta's values. They placed a statue with chains of the god in the city.

He is also the Roman god Mars’ ancestor
Ares is the ancestor the god Mars. He was the father of the founders Romulus (Rome), and Remus. Although Ares was disliked by many gods, Aphrodite loved him. Aphrodite preferred handsome Ares to her mortal husband, Hephaestus.
