Indian Traditions Have Values

importance of religion

We will be discussing some of the Indian traditions' values in the next paragraphs. These values include tolerance of religion, non-violence and kindness as well as love. We will also examine what Indians are doing to preserve these values. These are important qualities in a country like India.

Tolerance in religions

India's long tradition of religious tolerance is an integral part its social fabric and is considered a fundamental value in its society. Indians agree, despite differences in religion, that it is important for all religions to be respected. This includes Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. This inclusion is often cited by Indians as one of their greatest assets.

India is a pluralistic nation, but most Indians are proud to be part of major religious groups. Many Indians feel proud to be Indians, and they agree that Indian culture has superiority to other cultures.

Non-violence

India's religious heritage has a strong foundation in the non-violence philosophy. It is rooted in the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, who championed non-violent resistance. Ahimsa is the Indian term for this principle. Three major religions of the subcontinent share the non-violent way of protesting. In ancient Hindu texts non-violence has been identified as a fundamental virtue. According to this philosophy non-violence can lead to freedom and help you escape the cycle rebirth.

India's traditions of non-violence have been practiced for centuries. Buddha, for instance, emphasized compassion and non-violence. These principles became policy under the Mauryan Empire's control in the 3rdcentury BCE. Today, reminders of Buddha’s principles can be found all over India. Jain religion views non-violence similarly. Many Jain devotees are so careful to not accidentally hurt insects that they cover their faces.

Kindness

There are several ways to practice kindness in India. Indians not only provide food and accommodation to strangers but also share their wealth with others. This can include digging wells and planting trees. India's ancient traditions are rooted in kindness dating back to the 7thcentury, when Harshavardhana, an Indian king, reigned. To care for the sick, chatrams were often established by Indian kings.

Love

As with any journey of love, India's traditions of love have stages. The lower stages of love do not necessarily go away with enlightenment. However, they can be frustrating and depressing if we stay there. The first stage of love is physical attraction. This stage involves the desire to be with someone else. This is sometimes called kama.

While arranged marriages are still common in India, love marriages have become more popular. Indian girls consider dating an essential part of their search for a husband. Indian parents believe that love is not a trial-and error process. They are open to physical encounters with men of opposite sexual orientations.
