Rituals

Jainism's religious rituals can often be interwoven with daily life. The pious perform ritual acts like giving alms to poor people or scattering grains for birds. Other rituals include filtering and boiling water. One notable ritual is the Samayika, which is a meditative ritual of renunciation. It lasts 48 minutes and involves silent recollection as well as repetition of prayers.

Vegetarianism

Vegetarianism is Jainism's form of non-violence. Jain doctrine says that violence is detrimental to any living thing. Therefore, Jains avoid all forms of violence and limit their intake of food and water. In addition, they do not practice animal husbandry, use fire, or consume any poisonous materials. Jains have been traditionally merchants.

Reincarnation

Reincarnation plays an important role in Jainism as well, Buddhism and Hinduism. These religions believe that our future reincarnations will be affected by the quality of our previous lives. Both Hinduism (and Buddhism) emphasize the importance and power of virtue to influence our future incarnations. They discuss different virtues, known as Yamas or Niyamas. These include compassion for all beings and nonviolence.

Holidays

Jainism has many holidays. Diwali is the most popular holiday in Jainism. It is celebrated worldwide by Jains. Although most people associate Diwali with the Festival of Lights (or Festival of Lights), there is more to this day. It has become more of a practice than a holiday in the modern world.

The core teachings and principles of religion

Jainism, despite its Hindu roots has a unique philosophy of mind. Jainis believe that all human beings are aware of the environment around them and possess five senses. Humans possess the five senses as well as memory and inference. These five senses allow humans to gain knowledge about all things, even the human condition.
