Shinto emphasizes the importance of nature and the spiritual energy that flows through it. Its philosophy is based upon the belief that both the world and humans are healthy and good. Evil spirits bring evil into the world, which decreases human resistance to temptation. Wrong actions also prevent the flow or blessing of the kami. The main texts of the philosophy are the Kojiki (712 CE), the Nihon-gi 780 CE, both which contain traditional teachings as well myths.
It stresses Makoto, sincerity in your heart
The core belief of Shintoism is Makoto, or sincerity in the heart. This value is not a codified code of conduct, but a sense of sincerity that underlies the whole approach to life and the world. Makoto forms the foundation of all ethical thought. This includes the most fundamental moral principles and the most common daily actions. The idea of Makoto is universal across all religions and cultures.
It emphasizes purification
Shintoism's most important part is purification. This is why all new buildings are blessed before construction starts and that new cars are blessed in the process of assembly. Another common practice involves the purification of water.
It is not compatible with Christianity
Shintoism & Christianity are not compatible, as they promote differing views of God. The Christian faith holds that God is the creator and the loving father of all mankind. Shinto teaches people that they are fallen and have to be saved.
